Dr. Saliha Afridi
Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Saliha Afridi was born in Pakistan and moved to the United States as a young child, where she spent her formative years in Chicago, Illinois. She has lived and traveled extensively in the Middle East and Far East Asia. Dr. Afridi joined the Human Relations Institute in December 2008, where she conducts psychological and psychoeducational evaluations and offers psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults.
Dr. Afridi’s completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where she graduated Summe Cum Laude with a double major in Cultural Anthropology and Communications. She continued her studies at Arizona School of Professional Psychology where she received her Master’s in Clinical Psychology and eventually graduated with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
Dr. Afridi completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Dallas Metropolitan Consortium of Psychology in Dallas, Texas. There she rotated between Southern Methodist University’s Counseling and Psychiatric Center and Galaxy Community Counseling Center. Along with conducting assessments, psychotherapy, group therapy, marital therapy and play therapy, Dr. Afridi also conducted administrative duties which included serving as the intern on the intern selection committee, acting as the Training Coordinator, and being an ongoing clinical supervisor for master’s level psychology students.
Dr. Afridi’s doctorate training has afforded her the opportunity to work with very diverse client population. She has worked with individuals of varying cultures, ethnicities, religions, genders, and disabilities. She also has a rich exposure to a multitude of mental health issues including: childhood disorders, ADHD, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, addictions, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders, and relationship problems.
Dr. Afridi is a member of several professional organizations including American Psychological Association, North American Society of Adlerian Psychology, and Arizona Branch of Association of Play Therapy. Dr. Afridi has a long standing commitment to community outreach and education. She has a special interest in parenting and has created and implemented parenting programs based on Adlerian child guidance principles.
