Lama A. Younis
Criminologist and Forensic Psychologist

Lama Abdulrahman Younis is a Saudi Criminologist and Forensic Psychologist currently based in Jeddah. She gained her Bachelors of Science in 2005 from Effat College, Jeddah, specializing in psychology and counselling. In November 2006 she completed a Masters of Science in criminology and forensic psychology from Middlesex University London UK through which she is currently working on her Ph.D. in the same field.

Her academic work has mainly focused on child abuse in Saudi Arabia, producing a dissertation for her MSc degree titled: ‘A time to change; A structural and cultural comparative analysis of the deficiencies evident in contemporary Saudi Arabia when dealing with child abuse and its consequences’. Lama aims to increase awareness of child abuse amongst Saudi society and make recommendations for change in order to give all children the ability to reach their full potential without the fear of abuse. Having rigorously studied the contemporary methods used to deal with child abuse, she hopes to support and encourage further development in this field in Saudi Arabia.

In 2005 she completed practical training in counselling psychology in Ta’heel Center in Beirut Lebanon. Part of the Lebanese Association for Rehabilitation and Development, this is a non profit NGO established to help young Lebanese students succeed in school and later life. Here she gained practical experience counseling children and adolescents with psychological problems, widened her awareness of legal and ethical issues in her field and added to her knowledge of the different therapeutic techniques used for solving psychological problems.

She has been a guest speaker on various occasions, covering topics such as child abuse in Saudi Arabia for graduate students at Effat College in Jeddah. Through her work she is aiming to help the community improve through facilitating the provision of services that have a long term focus. She is a currently an Educator at Effat College, teaching 2 courses titled;
• Developmental Psychology Part1 (PSY 121)
• Communication Methods (PSY 252).

Each course completes 2 hours a week throughout a 17 weeks Semester.
In summer 2008 she attended a Graduate course Titled; Delinquents, Criminals, Psychopaths and Terrorist in Harvard University. The course compares the legal and psychological approaches to human behavior and considers their interaction. The course focuses on case studies and on research..
